Course Description As an integral part of the Integrated Design Process, commissioning provides the process, verification and documentation of success. This presentation will examine the effective integration of the commissioning process into the Design, Construction and Operation of projects and the specific requirements needed to comply with the 2015 IECC. Specific emphasis will be given to the new ASHRAE Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP) certification and how the ASHRAE Houston Chapter will facilitate the adoption of mandatory commissioning process within our region to Owners, Architects, Engineers, Contractors and Code Officials.

Learning Objectives At the end of the this course, participants will be able to: 1. Understanding current mandatory and voluntary commissioning requirements. 2. Understand the interaction between the Commissioning Provider, Owner, Architect, Engineer, Contractors, Vendors, AHJ and Facility Operators and Tenants, and how all Stakeholder impact healthy and efficient buildings. 3. Understand specific commissioning deliverables and how those milestones create opportunities to minimize project risks and increase building owner and tenant profits. 4. Understand how the new ASHRAE Building Commissioning Professional certification adds value to the Integrated Design Delivery process.

Commissioning The Commissioning Process assumes that owners, programmers, designers, contractors, and operations and maintenance entities are fully accountable for the quality of their work. The Commissioning Process begins at project inception (during the PreDesign Phase) and continues for the life of the facility (through the Occupancy and Operations). ASHRAE Standard 202-2013

COMMISSIONING ENFORCEMENT The AHJ needs assurance that the required commissioning activities are completed before a permit is issued. The AHJ can request a copy of all the documents for review or rely on the approval and summary documents by the Commissioning Provider and Owner or owner’s representative. ASHRAE Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP) The ASHRAE Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP) certification, is an ANSI-Accredited Personnel Certification Program under ISO/IEC 17024 (#1139), validates competency to lead, plan, coordinate and manage a commissioning team to implement commissioning processes in new and existing buildings. The BCxP certification has been recognized by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) as meeting the Better Buildings Workforce Guidelines (BBWG).
