Microsoft Background Info Microsoft was founded by Bill Gates and his childhood friend Paul G. Allen in 1975-1976. The initial Microsoft software was inspired by BASIC, a popular computer programming language. In 1980, IBM asked Microsoft to make the operating system for its first personal computer the IBM PC. The company’s main Research & Development site is at Redmond, Washington, U.S.

Over 110 nonprofits started in 42 countries to reach young people who want a career in STEM. 150% increase in the amount of female corporate vice presidents.
