CCC EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION TASK FORCE

CCC Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Task Force Co-Chaired by Deputy Chancellor Daisy Gonzalez and ASCCC President John Stanskas On Sept. 17, 2019, the Board of Governors took the following actions: Accepted proposed DEI Integration Plan to integrate DEI into the Vision for Success, with preliminary timeline and description of implementation team expected at January 2020 BoG meeting Adopted proposed CCC Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Statement with direction to propose changes to Title 5, CCC mission, EEO plans, and multiple measures certification forms by Sept. 2020 Support 2020-21 budget proposal submitted by the Task Force to augment statewide resources that will advance implementation of DEI Integration Plan For full details, see item 2.8 from Board of Governor’s Sept. 2019 agenda

CCC Diversity, Equity, Inclusion Task Force Opportunity to develop an integrated plan that invests in an ecosystem for recruiting, hiring, and supporting a diverse workforce Relationship between student diversity and faculty hiring and retention studied. Empirical studies: an ethnically diverse faculty has positive impact on student educational outcomes. Students who benefit from a diverse faculty are “better educated and better prepared for leadership, citizenship, and professional competitiveness” (Taylor, et al., 2010). Retention efforts and a clear commitment to diversity are two ways institutions can meet the needs of their students and address the changes in their demographics (Hurtado, 2001). Hiring faculty from diverse populations in itself will not change a campus culture or improve student outcomes; faculty must also be retained and supported.
