JET Equipment Grants Provide grants to public community, state and technical colleges and ISDs to purchase and install equipment necessary for the development of career and technical education courses or programs that lead to a license, certificate or postsecondary degree in a high-demand occupation. 6

Texas Works Recommendation Texas should appropriate 25 million for the 2010-11 biennium to establish a “Jobs and Education for Texans” (JET) Fund to support programs that prepare low-income students for careers in high-demand occupations; to defray startup costs associated with CTE courses; and to provide scholarships for students in career and technical programs. 8

Jobs and Education for Texans 81st Legislature, Regular Session HB 3 and HB 1935 established the JET program 82nd Legislature, Regular Session SB 2 appropriated 2010-2011 unobligated JET funds to 2012-2013 biennium 83rd Legislature, Regular Session 10M was appropriated for JET equipment grants for 2014-2015 biennium 84th Legislature, Regular Session HB 3062 moved the JET program to the Texas Workforce Commission HB 3062 added Independent School Districts as eligible offerors 85th Legislature, Regular Session 10M was appropriated for JET equipment grants for 2018-19 biennium *86th Legislature, Regular Session* 16M was appropriated for JET equipment grants for 2020-21 biennium 9

JET Equipment Grant Summary 2009-2014 26.7 million in grant awards 118 grant awards 45 out of 50 college districts received grants 69,000 students are projected to be served by JET equipment grants* *Estimates are based on information provided by the JET equipment grant recipients. 10
