Admissions Admissions Information – 1 year program (4 quarters) on Seattle Campus – Preparing students to take the NCLEX to become an RN (Registered Nurse) – Last year we received over 500 applications – Application deadline-11:59 pm (PST) October 15th – Offers sent out mid-December – UW Postbac application due February 15th for Autumn Quarter (you can wait to apply after you receive your offer)

ABSN Application Tells Us 1. Can you handle the program academically? 2. Do you know what nurses do? (Understand the nursing role) 3. Are you a good fit for nursing? 4. Are you a good fit for the ABSN i.e. will you be successful in the program? 5. Are you a critical thinker?

ABSN Prerequisites Completed Bachelor Degree before matriculation in the Fall Three Natural World Science (NWS) courses completed before applying 3.0 (B) or higher in each of the NWS courses All NWS completed by matriculation (Autumn Quarter) Additional required course work Lifespan Growth and Development/Developmental Psychology and Statistics

ABSN Prerequisites continued Natural World General Chemistry Organic Chemistry Human Anatomy Human Physiology Microbiology Nutrition Minimum 3 NWS courses complete at time of application/6 NWS, Lifespan, and Statistics completed at matriculation GPA – 3.0 for all NWS, Lifespan, and Statistics Cumulative GPA for all completed college-level coursework– 2.8

Transcripts Holistic Review – Online vs In-Classroom courses (both are fine so long as they are taken at an accredited institution) – Expiration – there is no expiration but we recommend courses be current so students retain the information – Retakes – we take the higher grade if you retake a course Focus on trends – Are there a lot of withdrawals? – Did grades improve over time? – Were there extenuating circumstances? (optional essay)

Transcripts Courses must be scored – No pass/fail or credit/no credit unless the course was only offered as the above because of Covid Consistency across your academic history

Healthcare Experience –For Fall 2022 Due to Covid-19, the school of nursing recognizes that safety is important to everyone and that health care experience may be challenging or risky for applicants. For Fall 2022, hands-on health care experience will not be required. Applicants are expected to clearly understand the RN role.

Resume Five Sections – – – – – Healthcare/Other Relevant Experience Community Involvement Leadership and Training Healthcare Training Licenses and Certificates Non-English Language Proficiencies (if applicable) NOTE: This section is fill in the blank on the application. You will not upload a resume.

Resume Continues Healthcare/Other Relevant Experience – Volunteer or paid work that reflects experience relevant to nursing practice should be listed, particularly experiences in health settings within the past three year Community Involvement – Active participation in a group/community, such as a student organization, neighborhood club, church, etc. Leadership and Training – May include situations where you have taken the lead, overseen an effort, or have trained individuals or groups NOTE: Description boxes will only allow for 200 words

Personal Statement Reflect on healthcare/other relevant experience Answer all four of the prompts No more than 1000 words for the first three prompts No more than 250 words for the fourth prompt You can either number the prompts or write as one essay Be honest Provide detailed examples Reflect Have an understanding of cultural humility NOTE: You will upload a pdf to your application for the Personal Statement

Personal Statement continued #1: What does anti-racism mean to you? How do you think it would impact your role as a nursing student and your future nursing practice? #2: What diverse life experiences will make you a great nurse and allow you to stand out? #3: How have you handled conflict in professional and/or volunteer situations?

Personal Statement continued #4: The ABSN program consists of 22 credits and requires approximately 70 hours per week to succeed. You are expected to make a full-time commitment for 12 months and, during that time, you must be available early mornings, daytime, evenings, and weekends for clinical, laboratory, or classroom instructions. Explain in 250 words or less: – Why you have chosen this type of program? – How you have prepared yourself to meet these program requirements? – Other ways you are prepared for the ABSN program? – What do you anticipate will be your greatest

Optional Statement If you think your transcripts do not accurately reflect your abilities and readiness for study in the program, you may explain why in an optional statement. If you have information about yourself that is not addressed in your personal statement you may choose to write an optional statement Your optional statement should be no more than 300 words NOTE: You will upload a pdf to your application for the Optional Statement

Letter of Recommendation Specific Questions Ask a nurse to write it Talk to them about the questions / provide information Check in with them Give recommenders enough time to write a recommendation

Proctored Essay All applicants are invited It will be online this year 1-hr timed exam Two parts: – Writing Answer the prompt completely – Math These problems are all real world medication conversions Think algebra Remember we are not trying to trick you Don’t over think it No calculators

Admitted Students Historically we accept 64 students to start in the Fall (this may change year to year) Once you receive an offer apply to the UW as a PostBac (Deadline February 15th) Waitlist-all admissible will be put on the waitlist Financial Aid – School of Nursing Scholarship Applications due in July – FAFSA – WASFA
