TRANSFER ADMISSION PLANNER If you encounter a “no comparable coursework” on TAP, students are encouraged to: Check if other local schools have the class available Review eligibility for cross enrollment Pursue Open University coursework If the course is coming from a non local college, find a course catalog with class descriptions and compare. There is no way to evaluate a class BEFORE admission, so the student risks coursework equivalency. The only sure way to show equivalency is to show coursework that has a pre-approved articulation.

Transfer Pathways THERE ARE THREE PATHWAYS THAT A STUDENT COULD USE TO TRANSFER INTO SDSU: General Pathway Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT) Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG)

Transfer Pathways Not all majors have each pathway as an option to apply, to find out what pathways are available to each major, please visit the SDSU website: http://arweb.sdsu.edu/es/admissions/transfers/apply/majors.html Regardless of which transfer pathway or major a student wishes to pursue, a student must at least meet the minimum CSU admissions to be eligible for SDSU.

SDSU TRANSFER OPTION: General Pathway

GENERAL PATHWAY ALL SDSU majors have a general pathway option except: ADT only English ADT only Psychology ADT only Kinesiology (Exercise Generalist) ADT only Liberal Studies (Generalist) Note: Some majors may have TWO options for transfer. For example, both an ADT and general pathway OR both TAG and general pathway. A major will never have an ADT AND a TAG option.

GENERAL PATHWAY If the major only has the general pathway option for admissions, students will be ranked based on locality, how many major preparation courses were completed, and GPA. Both ADT and TAG students will receive priority admission consideration in a major that has TWO pathways for seeking admissions Note: ADT and TAG are not available for every major and/or campus

SDSU TRANSFER OPTION: Associate Degree for Transfer (AA-T or AS-T)

Associate Degrees for Transfer (AA-T or AS-T) Senate Bill 1440 mandates each CSU to provide priority admission to California Community College students who have earned an AA-T or AS-T degree Students who earn an AA-T or AS-T degree and meet the CSU minimum eligibility requirements are guaranteed admission to 1 CSU campus, but not necessarily to a particular campus or major of student choice May be given a GPA bump (.1) when applying to an impacted campus outside your local area or an impacted major that is deemed similar Once admitted at a CSU campus in approved program, students can complete a Bachelor’s Degree at CSU campus with 60 semester units or 90 quarter units of coursework. adegreewithaguarantee.com

Associate Degrees for Transfer (AA-T or AS-T) A student may earn an ADT in a particular major, but they are not required to apply to a CSU with the ADT (student choice) Students who apply to a major that has two pathway options, will be considered under the general pathway if they do not receive their ADT. It is recommended that a student follow BOTH the Mesa ADT degree plan AND the TAP/ASSIST.ORG major preparation coursework just in case the student does not complete the ADT, they have the option to default to the general pathway option and be competitive adegreewithaguarantee.com

Associate Degrees for Transfer (AA-T or AS-T) Students who apply to ADT only majors MUST earn their ADT in order to be eligible to be eligible for admissions. Associate Degrees for Transfer (AA-T or AS-T) In order to qualify for the ADT program, students must indicate on their Cal State application AND on the supplemental application that they are applying for a major through the ADT option. In the early spring, SDSU will request electronic verification from the community colleges that students are on track to complete the degree by the end of spring prior to admission at SDSU. This program guarantees that students who earn an AA-T or AS-T degree from a California Community College will be admitted to a CSU campus, but NOT to the campus of their choice. Due to impaction at SDSU, students who have completed the ADT, but do not have a competitive application will be redirected to another CSU campus for review (chosen by CSU, not SDSU) adegreewithaguarantee.com

SDSU TRANSFER OPTION: Transfer Admision Guarantee (TAG)

SDSU Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) Requirements: (100% completed at local San Diego CC) Completion of a minimum of 60 transferable units Golden Four Courses Oral Communication, Written Communication, Critical Thinking, Mathematics General Education Courses Complete a certified GE package of 39 units or any applicable lower division GE pattern listed in the SDSU catalog Grade Point Average (GPA) Meet the minimum GPA requirement of specific major Major Preparation Courses Complete all major preparation courses listed in SDSU catalog

LOCAL VS NON LOCAL

SPECIAL SDSU MAJORS There are several special majors that have various additional admission requirements. If you are considering applying to one of these majors, please contact the SDSU Department for further questions.

SPECIAL SDSU MAJORS Athletic Training Students must submit a separate application to the School of Exercise & Nutritional Sciences in addition to the Cal State Apply application. Additional requirements include, but not limited to: Current certification in CPR & First Aid Specified Letter of documentation to verify completion of at least 60 hours of observation in a traditional athletic training setting Technical Standards for Admission Personal statement and application Two letters of recommendation Interview Acceptance into SDSU does not guarantee the student is accepted into the program, nor does an acceptance into the program guarantee admission into SDSU.

Auditions are usually held in February following the supplemental application period. SPECIAL SDSU MAJORS International Business Applicants must choose a different language from the principal language of instruction used at the high school or secondary school from which they graduated. i.e.: If a student attended high school in Japan in which the courses were taught in Japanese, then the student may not apply to SDSU with the major International Business – Japanese/Asia emphasis.

SPECIAL SDSU MAJORS Nursing In addition to applying for admission online at Cal State Apply by November 30 th, students must also complete the SDSU Supplemental Application and answer the specific nursing questions by late January (date TBD) Report Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) score on Supplemental Application in January - Minimum overall score requirement is 80%. Upper-division and second bachelor’s students applying to Nursing MUST complete Nursing prerequisite courses by the end of fall semester. RN to BSN applicants applying to Nursing must complete Nursing prerequisite courses by the end of spring. Optional: Letter of Verification of Paid Work Experience (100 hours) and Health Care Certification self-reported on Supplemental Application in January

SPECIAL SDSU MAJORS Television, Film and New Media - Production Transfer students admitted to the pre-major in Television, Film, and New Media with an emphasis in Production are required to submit a petition portfolio the second Monday in April. Visit the department page for additional information and requirements A student may be admitted to SDSU without being admitted into the production major. Students will have one additional opportunity to apply to the major after matriculation at the university.
