Grading Policies Grading Scale: Grades will be based on points earned through the entire semester. Grades will be weighted in the following areas: Writing and Projects 40% Formative and Summative Assessments 40% Classwork and Homework 20% CW/HW to be evaluated based on content, completion, and form.

Grading Scale Letter grades will be based on the following scale as set forth by the FHS Department of English: 100% A 78-79% C 93-99% A 73-77% C 90-92% A70-72% C 88-89% B 68-69% D 83-87% B 63-67% D 80-82% B60-62% D 59% and below F Please note that CSU and UC campuses require a C or better in courses applied towards university admission.

1st Semester Curriculum Unit 1: Epic Hero Core text: Beowulf Common writing assignment: Personal Narration (College Application Essay) Unit 2: Research-Based Writing Core text: Online StudySync unit Common writing assignment: Synthesis Essay (District Assessment) Unit 3: Career and College Preparation Core text: Novel groups (based on teacher-selected choices) Common writing assignment: Resume and Cover Letter Career Research: Annotated Bibliography Instruction through the semester will also focus on skills needed for District Final: Reading (Lit and Info), Grammar, Vocabulary
